There were talks of New York and New Jersey as sites of an F1 race, but according to an announcement on Formula One’s official website, F1 is scheduled to return to the U.S. in Austin, Texas in 2012. The choice of Austin comes as a major surprise. The agreement of the Austin Grand Prix was announced for 2012 to 2021, but no race date was set. And, Bernie Eccelstone adds that this will be the first time a facility has been constructed specifically for F1 in the United States.

Toyota has announced that it will not be returning to Formula 1 for the 2011 season. They cite that Formula 1 is to out of touch with ts customer base.  They plan to re-prioritize and focus on “grass-roots racing”, including NASCAR and the Nurburgring 24-hour endurance race in Germany. The company believes these are more “geared toward the customer.” Toyota even goes as far as the say there is a big gap between those who enjoy Formula 1 and those who user Toyota’s vehicles. They admit that Formula 1 is still the “pinnacle of auto racing,” but refer to the sport as “elitist.”

Who Will It Be? Michelin or Pirelli?

Posted in Auto Parts, Formula 1, FOTA, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 17, 2010 by autoracingpower

With Bridgestone’s decision to leave Formula 1, they are still in need of a tyre supplier for the 2011 season. The two main contenders are Michelin and Pirelli.

Both have previously been in F1, 2006 was Michelin’s last year and Pirelli in 1990.

In Monte Carlo on Sunday May 16th, The Formula One Teams Association met in hopes to make a final decision, but no agreement was made.

There are no indicators as to which supplier has an upperhand. Michelin has the most recent F1 experience, but Pirelli has poised a very good proposal.

Opening on May 11th, the NASCAR Hall of Fame coincides with this month’s NASCAR races at the nearby Charlotte Motor Speedway, as the hall is in Charlotte.  But, this hall is more than a hall, it is an interactive experience with striking technology. Upon entering you are whisked into a room with a multitude of high-def television screens showing you a 12-minute NASCAR history. And, this Hall of Fame has more than just busts of your favorite drivers, like the rebuilt moonshine of Junior Johnson.

This $195 million dollar facility charges $19.95 admissions for adults and gives discounts for children 12 and younger, seniors 60 and older and military members—with a portion of profits going to NASCAR.There are also yearly memberships available, which would be beneficial since exhibits will change and new inductees are inaugurated each year. Changes in NASCAR Fuel

Posted in NASCAR, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on May 3, 2010 by autoracingpower

E15As NASCAR approaches the 2011 season, the racecars on the track are expected to be fueled by a mixture of 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline—E15. Ethanol is a high-octane motor fuel created from renewable recourses such as corn. At its most basic, it is grain alcohol.

Hendrick Motorsports is already testing the fuel. Roush Yates engines plans to start development with E15 shortly. And, ethanol has become the organizations priority because they want it in all three series.

This change in fuel will be an exciting move for NASCAR. Yates believes it is necessary in order to stay relevant with the ever changing world.

Although NASCAR has stepped up the discussion of fuel change, there are disagreements on when this can truly be implemented.
