Suzuka International Racing Course – 10/10/10

The next Formula 1 race is scheduled for Sunday October 10, 2010 at the Suzuka International Racing Course for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Facts abut the track:

  • The Suzuka International Racing Course was first designed as a Honda test track in 1962.
  • It currently is one of the few racing circuits in the world to have a figure-8 layout with an overpass.
  • It can be used in three difference configurations based on the race.
  • Suzuka signed a contract to hose the Japanese Grand Prix in 2009, 2010, as well as 2011.
  • The track is one of the oldest track in the F1 World Championship.
  • Suzuka measures 5,807km (3,609 mi)
  • The circuit has 17 turns.
  • 53 Laps
  • The track record was set by Kimi Räikkönen of McLaren in 2005 at 1:31:540.
  • First Grand Prix at the track was in 2003.

More than 100 Injured at Motor Racing Track

A motor racing event in Brazil took a sour turn of events, when the metal grandstand holding hundreds of people collapsed. As the grandstand topples to the ground, hundreds of spectators crumble with it.  Officials said that at least 100 people were injured.

Introducing Miss Coors Light: Rachel Rupert

There’s nothing better than sitting back with a Coors Light, the official beer of NASCAR, and taking in a race—until now. Coors Light is welcoming a new team member to its family. Rachel Rupert has been selected as the first ever Miss Coors Light. She assumes her duties on September 19 at the New Hampshire race and then plans to return for the entire duration of the 2011 NASCAR season.

Miss Rupert beat out more than 100 ladies to become Miss Coors Light. She is said to have a passion for NASCAR, an engaging personality and a gorgeous smile. Her new duties include: interacting with fans and drivers at appearances, events and online. She also is responsible for presenting the Coors Light Pole award each week. And, once 2011 rolls around, she becomes the face of Coors Light—on their NASCAR themed point-of-sale materials.

Miss Rupert is an avid fan. She watched NASCAR growing up, attended races at a young age and even lists Martinsville as her favorite track.

Wal-Mart to Rethink Gordon Partnership

According to several sources, Wal-Mart is currently re-evaluating how to spend their sponsorship budget: should they go with a single driver or an array of drivers?

With word of a potential deal for Wal-Mart to primarily sponsor Gordon as well as other drivers, there has been concern of Gordon’s merchandise receiving high-priority displays in Wal-Mart stores .

However, with news that Wal-Mart wasn’t going to be Gordon’s primary sponsor, that fear has dissolved. This decision leaves Gordon without primary sponsorship.
