Growing up, Michael Cherry’s nickname was “Hollywood.” And now, the NASCAR driver might have to rekindle the use of that moniker as he’s a featured driver on the new realtity TV series “Changing Lanes.” The show debuts Wednesday, September 1st on BET.

This new series is designed to spark the interest of NASCAR in more minority groups. It starts with 30 drivers, then is cut down to 10. They compete in elimination contests and the 4 finalists win an opportunity to qualify for the Toyota All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, California.

The series not only shows you the drivers’ dedication on the track, but gives a personal profiling on each one, as the show hopes to bring more women, African Americans and Hispanics into a sport that has been predominately focused on white males.

Michel Cherry currently sports the nickname “Cherry Bomb,” which is painted on the car he drives for Revolution Racing. They are a racing company devoted to bringing diversity into stock car racing.
