Formula 1’s First Night Race

It was 8PM, Sunday September 28th, 2008 in Singapore.

The 5.067km street circuit around the Marina Bay area was flooded with light as it held the first ever Formula 1 Night Race. The lights were so powerful they replicated daylight conditions. More than 80,000 spectators were to be accommodated for. It was to be a celebration, a festival if you will, rather than a simple night race.

Formula 1’s landmark event was hoped to bring a new audience, new drama and a new atmosphere to Formula 1 racing.

Singapore went on to host the 2009 Night Race as well.
